Hello! I know I've been a bit AWOL on here of late but I'm back and fighting fit I promise! Back in March I took a trip to Amsterdam with Joe, it was pretty last minute and relatively cheap, so we booked. I must admit, Amsterdam was never at the top of my bucket list and I was a tad apprehensive about going since I'd heard some whacky stories, however... I loved it! It was such a lovely city. We were there for three nights in total, so I decided to share some of my snaps from the trip & tell you all about it here.
This was our hotel which was straight across the canal from Amsterdam Central Train Station - great location! It was within walking distance from Amsterdam Square and a 5 minute walk from the Tram Terminal. It was called the NH Barbizon Palace. The rooms were great, ours had a little hallway and stairs that led down to the bedroom, and who doesn't love a marble bathroom?
These are some various photos from just wandering around the city. Almost everything about this place is picturesque. From the townhouses on the canals, to the gardens of the Rijksmuseum you could easily wander around for hours on end, stopping in little coffee shops for a macaroon and a latte.
The Heineken Experience was one of the best things we done over the weekend. It's just a short tram ride away from Amsterdam Central and it should definitely be on your list of things to do. After the experience we went to a little pub across the road which was relaxed and quaint!
If you are a foodie then you 100% need to visit The Breakfast Club in Amsterdam! I'm a sucker for some quirky décor and this place didn't disappoint! Also since I'm a lover of John Hughes 80's original film I just had to go here for breakfast one morning.
Another thing to do while your in Amsterdam is visit the Anne Frank House. A little pre-warning is to make sure you book your tickets a while in advance as this is a very busy tourist attraction and if you don't want to miss it make sure you book it! This was such an eye opener, almost everyone in the world is aware of the story and what happened but seeing some of the things right before your eyes is heart-breaking.
On a brighter note - WOW! Another must visit in the Dam, Café de Paris and Metropolitain. I'd heard of Café de Paris before and was eager to go, so we went to The Metropolitain for some food which was incredible! I mean just look at that burger... Then we headed upstairs to Café de Paris for some cocktails and drinks.
If your a shopaholic like me or even a window shopper, the must see Department Store in Amsterdam is the De Bijenkorf. Is had everything your heart could desire, Cartier, Hermes, Saint Laurent, Prada, Dior and much much more! We took a stroll round and had a little pit stop on the roof terrace which is lovely - unfortunately when we were there it wasn't the warmest so we sat inside with some hot drinks instead.
Overall Amsterdam was a great weekend and I would suggest it to anyone that's looking for a little break away for some sight seeing and fun! I hope you enjoyed reading and seeing my favourite parts of my trip, any feedback is welcomed and I hope to be posting again soon! Bye.
